In news that can only be described as “of course she did,” Rihanna and two of her former flames—namely Drake and Chris Brown—have become the topic of conversations online recently. But, it’s not what you think.
In fact, the reason why is highly likely to crack you up as it did many people on social media and because we all could use an additional laugh (or two), we’ll tell you all about it. Things kicked off on Monday when a new promotional video of Rih’s newest Savage X Fenty drop dropped online. In it, the “ANTI” singer can be seen decorating cakes and answering random questions about love, Valentine’s day and love-related things.
However, it was when the topic of whether or not she preferred a love song or a love letter came up that fans believed she was throwing shots at either Drizzy or Breezy.
“Please never make me a love song, that is corny. Trust me, I’ve seen it,” she said while looking dead at the camera.
Now, the reason why some fans think the comment was shade towards Chris is largely due to the current chatter on TikTok from folks who think Brown’s popular song “Residuals” is about his old relationship with the “Work” singer. The song is currently still sitting high on most charts and is even up for a Grammy at this year’s forthcoming award show.
The reason why fans think it could be shots fired at Drake is due to, well, the fact that he’s mentioned Rih in plenty of his songs over the years since they broke up nine years ago. From his “Thank Me Later” days all the way up to his “For All the Dogs” album back in 2023, there’s been numerous occasions where Drizzy has referenced Rih—so it’s not too far fetched to think that this could be about him.
But knowing what we know about Rihanna, it could be both of them because she’s queen of being hilariously petty. And judging by the folks in the comments on social media, they picked up on it.
“Drake catching strays,” wrote on user on X/Twitter.
“I’m weak cause all her niggas made love songs about her and she has too. She love lying,” said another.
“Chris somewhere losing his mind,” one user wrote in the comment section of the post on Instagram.
Added another, “That’s corny. Oh wow Chris Brownm you hear that ishhh.”
