Will Michael Oher’s showdown against the Tuohy’s ever end? We all know the story at this point, right?
Three months ago, the former NFL player filed a 14-page petition in a Tennessee court claiming that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy never adopted him and that they instead tricked him into signing a conservatorship document that allowed them to make business deals in his name.
He also claimed that the Tuohys made millions of dollars from the 2009 movie The Blind Side, while he did not see any money.
Shortly after the claim, it was discovered that the family did not adopt Oher but instead had him sign a conservatorship agreement, which has since ended. But it’s still unclear which side is being truthful regarding who did and did not receive profits from the Oscar-winning film.
In new financial document filed by the Tuohys in a Tennessee court, the family claims that Oher was paid more than $138,000 in profits made from the movie, according to ESPN.
This goes directly against the core of Oher’s allegations.
More from ESPN:
The financial accounting, which had been ordered by a Shelby County probate court judge, said that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy paid $138,311.01 to Oher in 10 separate installments between June 2007 and April 2023. The payments represent Oher’s share of the profits made from the movie and the book that preceded it, according to a statement accompanying the accounting document filed by the Tuohys’ lawyers…
The financial document included copies of tax forms showing that the Tuohys were paid more than $432,000 by Twentieth Century Fox, Alcon Film Fund and Left Tackle Pictures for the movie between 2007 and 2021. The document also included a ledger that purportedly lists payments the Tuohys made to Oher, as well as copies of checks and bank statements showing deposits the couple made to a bank account in the name of one of Oher’s children.
A Tennessee court ordered the Tuohys to share these financial documents at the same time they ended the conservatorship between the two parties.
While the filing of these documents could be a sign that this legal battle could be ending, I’m sure Oher has plenty of other claims to make against the “family” he once cared about.
