The weird and uncomfortable stories about Diddy continue to grow, and they always seem to involve some of the more notable figures in the entertainment industry.
During a recent appearance on Tank and J. Valentine’s “R&B Money” podcast, Punch, the president of Top Dawg Entertainment, shared a story about an altercation between Diddy and J. Cole at a 2013 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
Although he doesn’t name names specifically, the events align with the long-rumored altercation between the two high-profile artists.
Punch stated, “The homie just did this song, right? Pissed a gang of people off, everybody was mad at it. When the song came out, he was overseas, then he came back to the States. First place we stopped in was New York City and the first thing we do is say, ‘Let’s go to the club’ because we want to check the temperature, see what everybody was on. L.A. stuff.”
Many believe Punch is referring to Big Sean’s “Control,” which featured an infamous verse from Kendrick Lamar, in which he claims that he’s the “King of New York” and calls out several of his peers in hip-hop.
Punch continues, “We get to the club. One of the homies approached us, talking about this particular record. So we’re going back and forth: ‘Oh, it’s not personal. It’s just this, this and that. It’s cool, whatever, whatever.’”
He then describes how another individual who appeared drunk approached the guy they just finished talking to and started to argue. Apparently, they were arguing long before Punch even arrived at the club.
He later adds, “The homie that got into it with the other one, he’s sitting two steps down from me on the couch. Then they came back to him, the ones who got into an alteration earlier. He was like, ‘If you ever say what you said to me earlier, n***a, I’ll…’ And he grabbed a bottle from the table and he said, ‘What you gon’ do? Hit me on my head with a bottle?’ He was like, ‘Nah, I’m gonna break it on the table and I’m gonna cut your throat.’

Although Punch did not name names during this interview, he has previously. During a 2022 interview with Math Hoffa on “My Expert Opinion,” the TDE president described the exact same story but named Diddy, Jay-Z, J. Cole, and many other figures in the music industry who were involved.
