In news that can only be described as “I’m sorry, say what?”— Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders has found himself back under scrutiny.
But it’s not for any weird off-the-field behavior or questionable plays, nope. Instead, Coach Prime is coming under fire for allegedly making his team show up to a mandatory Lil Wayne concert put on as a part of Prime Weekend. And while being forced to see the “A Milli” rapper wouldn’t initially come off as a bad thing, according to Glory Colorado, Coach Prime’s Colorado football players were mandated to go not only to see Wayne— but to also support Sander’s son Shedeur Sanders budding rap career. (Shedeur was slated to peform just before Wayne). Per sources close to members of the team, they allege that the move was the “final straw” for some players and consequently led to them entering the NCAA transfer portal.
“The Wayne concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal,” a source told Athlon Sport’s Steve Corder. “When Coach Prime told us we all had to be there to support Shedeur as a rapper, they were not happy at all. To be honest, it was nothing but a huge distraction and Daddy Ball was being played.”
However, it doesn’t seem like the alleged complaints of the team are phasing Coach Prime all that much. In a tweet sent out earlier this week, Sanders wrote:
“This will be a memorable week for a multitude of reasons. Even the Lies can’t stop what GOD is doing with this Program, with our Beautiful city, concerning our Wonderful Campus, these hard working young Men & the campers that’s coming this week! I absolutely LOVE it.”
This move comes also comes amid multiple reports of alleged internal turmoil between Prime and the players and the players themselves.
