Amanda Seales certainly knows how to find controversy. Fresh off the internet taking issue with her comments about NeNe Leakes, the actress/comedian is now dealing with reports that her show was canceled.
On Wednesday, she hopped on social media to inform her fans that her show had reportedly been canceled because some affiliates didn’t think she was “funny enough.” This may seem harsh, but when radio markets/websites sign on to air a show, they’re usually expecting a specific type of show for a specific timeslot.
Shows featuring comedians usually have funny sketches, characters and jokes revolving around current events and pop culture. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, as the most successful shows find a way to fit their style into this format. We can only guess that she wasn’t conforming enough for management.
Seales did things her way, which apparently made affiliates unhappy. In the video she admits that she wasn’t doing the typical show, often discussing politics, activism and other more serious issues. She pushed back on her bosses’ requests and had problems with other hosts like D.L. Hughley and Rickey Smiley.
She also noted how she’s never been fired from a creative position, because she shows up and does a good job. In the entertainment industry, projects get canceled for all kinds of reasons, most of which usually have something to do with money. So it’s totally possible that this decision really doesn’t have anything to do with Seales. However, playing the victim again isn’t going to help her reputation.
In the comments to an Instagram video of her announcement, some fans expressed their enjoyment of the show, while others lamented the drama that follows her around.
One user noted how Seales doesn’t work within the system, writing, “I love Amanda .... she doesn’t conform!!!! Never owned a pair of tap dancing shoes!!!!!”
Another person showed their support, but acknowledged that she gets in her own way, replying, “The show was actually ok, but she has to learn how to play the game, or she’ll eventually be blackballed if she already isn’t.”
Someone else is definitely not a fan of the “Insecure” actress’ penchant for complaining, posting, “Is she ever happy that’s why she ain’t invited to black events… her energy is so negative .. who wants someone soaking the life out of them .. I couldn’t be her friend.”
We don’t know for sure what’s going on with Amanda Seales’ radio show, but she has to find a balance between making her opinions known and insulting everyone around her, because no one wants to be yelled at all the time.
