A Detroit police sergeant is now the focus of an internal investigation by the city's Police Department after comparing Beyoncé's backup dancers to the Ku Klux Klan, WJBK reports.

The officer in question posted a picture of the dance troupe in their outfits reminiscent of the Black Panthers above a picture of the notorious hate group and captioned it, "So if the dance troupe at the top is ok for this years' [sic] half time show, then the one at the bottom should be ok for next years' [sic], right?"

The post drew a huge amount of backlash, prompting a police response.

"I received calls indirect and direct from employees throughout the organization troubled by it," Chief of Police James Craig told the news station. "Certainly this does not and shouldn't represent our police officers.

"We work in a city that's certainly well over 80 percent African American, and to post something that has to do with a hate group like the Ku Klux Klan is problematic," he added.

The post has since been removed and was replaced by an apology. Nonetheless, Craig emphasized that the original post was unacceptable.
