Detroit police are investigating after a father was reportedly shot to death in front of his son’s school Wednesday morning, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Police say that the man was shot in the head shortly after his son exited the vehicle and went into the Mark Twain Elementary School in southwest Detroit. The young boy did not see the shooting.

Police believe that the suspect was sitting in the rear passenger seat of the car that the victim and the child were in. The suspect, who exited the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the shooting, has been described as a black man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds.
