Paramount Pictures announced Thursday that Washington will direct and star in the movie version of the hit Broadway play; Viola Davis will co-star.

In 2010, while the show was on Broadway, both Davis and Washington won Tony Awards for their roles.

“This important and beloved play has been a passion of Denzel’s for many years and it is with great excitement that we embark together to bring his dream project to the big screen,” Paramount Chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in a press release.

Although no release date has been set, filming starts at the end of the month.
