We’ve seen her. We know her. We love her. We just don’t know her name—it’s Debra Shaw. We don’t know why it’s taken so long for her to land the cover of Vogue, but what we do know is that we love Debra Shaw’s May cover of Vogue Portugal. Why? Because at 41 years old, Shaw has her first Vogue cover ever!
After two decades in the modeling industry, soldiering down the runways of Dior, Dolce and Versace with her long, lithe, Dora Milaje limbs, Shaw has finally conquered modeling’s biggest milestone: a Vogue cover.
The Glow Up would like to send a shoutout to the fashion-makers behind the scenes who fought to help Shaw get her piece of the rock. Photographer Dan Beleiu shot Shaw in studio in Paris. (Believe it or not, that color-drenched photo was not taken in some exotic locale.) Shaw’s flawless makeup for the shoot was done by Katerina Brans, and her hair was styled by Yumiko Hikage.
Special shoutout to casting director Anna Kozyakova for pushing to make a change happen by putting our girl Debra’s beautiful face on the cover, where it belongs.
What we at The Glow Up love most about this whole story is that Shaw has stayed true to her game. Which just goes to show, you never know when your blessings will come. #BlackGirlWinning
