Looks like New York Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio's son, Dante, is putting up a good fight about where his family will live, nearly a month after his dad won the election. The New York Daily News reports that the de Blasio family has yet to decide whether or not to move from their Brooklyn digs into Gracie Mansion, the mayoral residence.
It has been reported that Dante, who attends Brooklyn Tech, wasn't fond of the idea of moving to the Upper East Side house because of the time that would be added to his commute.
"Dante had that concern, and I had that concern for him, too, about his school. That wasn’t necessarily his firm and final vote, but that was a real concern we had to work through," de Blasio said.
According to the Daily News, de Blasio promised a decision once his daughter, Chiara, came home from college for Thanksgiving. The family would talk it over and come to a decision.
With the holiday firmly in the rearview, what sayeth you, de Blasio?
"I can report to you that a family meeting did occur. And there’s still a couple of unanswered questions. A couple of details have to be sorted through. But we’re going to know before this week is out what we’re going to do," de Blasio told the Daily News.
If the de Blasio family does opt to stay in their current home, they wouldn't be the first mayoral family to do so. Mayor Bloomberg chose to live in his own East Side townhouse during his term, and the Daily News reports that Gracie Mansion has stood mostly empty for 12 years. Currently the mansion is used for ceremonial events. Rudy Giuliani lived in the more than 200-year-old, five-bedroom mansion on East End Avenue until his marriage collapsed.
