People around the world are still reeling from the news about the death of Prince. And the man who immortalized Prince’s love of basketball on television dedicated a recent show to him.
During his Friday stand-up show at the Chapel in San Francisco, Dave Chappelle spoke about Prince’s death, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Chappelle’s 2 a.m. show almost didn’t happen, until his band reminded him that Prince would want the show to go on.
Chappelle told the crowd, “And now there is no place I’d rather be.”
During his routine, Chappelle said Prince’s death was the “black 9/11.”
“This is black 9/11,” Chappelle said. “It’s so much better that we grieve together.”
Chappelle’s band played Prince songs, and the comedian also shared stories with the audience about his encounters with the Purple One.
“Nothing of this world will begin to fill the void of his absence except his memory,” Chappelle told WCCO CBS Minnesota.
