Dave Chappelle Has 3 Stand-Up Specials Coming to Netflix

If Dave Chappelle’s appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this month left you wanting more, you are in luck: The comedian has three specials coming to Netflix, the online network announced Monday.

As Variety reports, these projects will be Chappelle’s first stand-up TV specials in 12 years.

“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy—searing, vital and now, more than ever, essential,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix’s vice president of original documentaries and comedy. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”

The deal includes one original special produced by Chappelle and director Stan Lathan. The other two specials, which will come from Chappelle’s vault, include a performance produced at the Austin City Limits Live venue and one performance at the Hollywood Palladium.

Chappelle’s appearance as the SNL host this month generated the show’s highest ratings in three years, and according to Variety, Chappelle is one of the most successful touring comics in the country, staging 500 shows during the last three years.

Netflix previously inked a $40 million deal with Chris Rock for two comedy specials, making it a true contender in the stand-up arena.

No premiere date has been announced for the new special, but the vault specials are slated to air simultaneously in 2017.
