After last weekend's violent and sad incident involving Jovan Belcher, the NFL took another hit on Saturday when Dallas Cowboy Jerry Brown died in a car accident. The New York Daily News reports that Brown's teammate Josh Brent was behind the wheel.

Police said Brent, 24, was speeding down an Irving, Tex., road when his car stuck a curb, causing the vehicle to flip at least once before coming to rest on a center median.

Brown, 25, a practice-squad linebacker, was found unresponsive at the scene. Emergency workers took him to a local hospital, but he couldn't be saved.

Police conducted a field sobriety test on Brent at the scene of the accident and arrested him when he appeared to be intoxicated.

The charges against Brent were upgraded after Brown died.
