Microsoft in Washington, D.C., is seeking a senior public relations manager to join its Public Affairs and Citizenship team. This is a new role that will provide additional support to the senior director of public relations to promote Microsoft to the U.S. government and public-policy audiences.

Responsibilities include public relations and support of increasingly key topics at the federal level, including preparation for the launch of Windows 8, innovation and patents in relation to natural user interface, education, technology and issues pertaining to economic growth and job creation. The senior public relations manager will coordinate and manage PR issues with government-affairs federal and state teams, public sector and subsidiary communications team in areas such as citizenship programs, unfair-competition legislation, and education-policy initiatives. He or she will also utilize social media tools to support these initiatives.

The position will also promote Microsoft's activities relating to the 2012 election cycle and as a partner across the company to increase understanding of national political and public-policy issues and provide communications guidance to other divisions.

The ideal candidate will have at least six years' experience in communications targeted to the federal level, particularly Capitol Hill, and should have previously worked in the executive branch, political campaigns, think tanks and advocacy organizations or a public relations firm.

He or she must have a bachelor's degree or preferably an MBA, excellent written and speaking skills, and a proven track record of implementing communications strategies to advance advocacy positions.
