Daily Job Lead: Outreach Intern

The Union of Concerned Scientists' Berkeley, Calif., office is seeking a paid outreach intern for a 12-month period. The intern will help organize support for strong California climate, clean-energy and clean-vehicles policies. Duties will include engaging members and activists in campaigns, sending email alerts and coordinating events. The Union of Concerned Scientists is a leading science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and a safer world.

The intern will be responsible for recruiting volunteers for special campaigns, scheduling meetings with agency and legislative officials and managing a database of  publications, electronic and paper files, subscriptions, the staff calendar, and dissemination of reports and other materials to targeted recipients.

He or she should have great organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills and proficiency with computers. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook; Google Docs; and database and graphic-manipulation software is strongly preferred.

Candidates interested in public policy, global warming, transportation, renewable energy and environmental issues are encouraged to apply. Work experience in a nonprofit environment and Spanish-language proficiency are pluses.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend between $1,733 and $2,600 based on academic experience.
