Daily Job Lead: Fishery Specialist

The New England Fishery Management Council in Newburyport, Mass., is seeking a temporary fishery specialist (for up to two years). The fishery specialist/biologist will assist with fishery-management plans and help prepare documents including environmental-impact statements. The position will also compile meeting summaries, conduct public meetings and analyze environmental, biological, socioeconomic and other technical data.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in fisheries science or biology. He or she will have strong analytical skills, demonstrated quantitative analytic and technical-writing skills, familiarity with accessing Oracle databases, basic plotting and analysis of data with Geographic Information Systems, experience with statistical-analysis software and solid understanding of Microsoft Office software packages. Strong interpersonal and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently and meet deadlines, are a must.

The council manages fishery resources that are primarily in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone in the New England region (Maine through Connecticut).
