Living Lands & Waters in East Moline, Ill., is seeking an educational coordinator/general crew for its environmental river cleanup. The educational coordinator will live and work with an eight- to nine-person coed team on a river barge for up to nine months a year. During off-river months, he or she will work at headquarters in the office and the shop.
The primary responsibility will be coordinating big-river educational workshops for teachers and high school students aboard a floating classroom that travels to seven states a year. Other tasks include marketing, booking guest speakers, logistics and maintaining a database of participants. Duties as a crew member will include operating trucks and boats, assisting with the coordination of cleanup and tree-planting events, equipment maintenance and serving as a deckhand.
The ideal candidate must be willing to work long and sometimes labor-intensive hours.
