This has to be a joke, right?
Well, that's what 21-year-old Andre Curry said when he posted a picture of his daughter tape-bound on Facebook. That same photo now has Curry in jail, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond; he has been charged with aggravated domestic battery. Most frightening for the young man is the possible seven years in prison that he could face.
The photo, which was uploaded to the social networking site sometime last week, carried a caption that read, "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back." The photo immediately sparked an investigation by the Chicago Department of Children and Family Services.
Curry's attorney claims that the whole event was a misunderstanding, although he does admit to taping his daughter. A woman at Curry's mother's house echoed the attorney's sentiments, saying that he has no prior record. "It was all a joke. They were all here playing, It was a joke," the woman told NBC Chicago. "He's a young father. He made a mistake and put it on Facebook."
He has been ordered to stay off the Internet and away from children. He is also not allowed to see his daughter.
While this young man has no record, he obviously has no sense if he would compromise his daughter just because he thinks something would be funny on a social networking site. While this young man may be 21, he's about as mature as a 7-year-old. But this man doesn't deserve jail time — he needs help.
