A Washington, D.C., police officer has been arrested in Maryland after allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old girl before robbing her earlier this year.
According to WBAL-TV, Chukwuemeka Ekwonna, 27, was arrested Thursday and charged with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree sex offense, reckless endangerment, prostitution and weapons offenses.
The arrest stems from a Jan. 9 interaction, when authorities say Ekwonna met with a 15-year-old girl on the social media app Tagged. The teen agreed to meet with the cop and engage in sexual activity in exchange for money, according to police.
Once the deed was done, Ekwonna held a gun to the 15-year-old girl and demanded that she return his money, authorities charge. The girl did so and Ekwonna left.
Police became aware of the teen March 13 after the Department of Homeland Security notified them over concerns of human trafficking.
Ekwonna, who was with the D.C. police for just 14 months, had his police powers revoked and has been placed in a noncontact status, according to WBALTV.
The case is currently under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the D.C. Police Internal Affairs Division.
