Crazy Talk: Nightclub's 'Food Stamp Friday'

The Associated Press is reporting that the Rose Supper Club in Montgomery, Ala., will launch "Food Stamp Friday" theme nights in April.

Will patrons be able to use their food stamps to buy alcoholic drinks or bar food? No, says manager Harmon Wilson. But the flyer indicates that guests will receive a shot at the door upon arrival, fully subsidized by the establishment.

Wilson told the Associated Press that the night is simply meant to complement the club's other theme nights, such as Fat Tuesday, Karaoke Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday. He says that he hopes the novel approach will draw people to the club. (Because nothing says "fun, elegant night out" like references to poverty, we guess.)

Alabama Department of Human Resources spokesman Barry Sparks told the AP that the department does not approve of the promotion.
