In a video recorded at the 10th Annual Fighting Bob Fest in Madison, Wis., and posted as part of a series at the Nation, Princeton professor Cornel West discusses the democratic awakening the country is currently experiencing. He says it may grow bolder as people become more and more weary of being drubbed by economic disparities.
There has been a 30-year class war against poor and working people. The greedy oligarchs and the avaricious plutocrats happen to be winning that war at the moment. At the same time we are experiencing at a democratic awakening when people are actually beginning to straighten their backs up, organize, mobilize and fight back. As we fight back, we hope to see not just that poverty declines, but that wages of working people increase and some kind of accountability of the oligarchic powers.
