Shortly after auditioning for Saturday Night Live, comedienne Liza Dye fainted while on a New York subway platform and was hit by an oncoming train.

The accident, which happened in February, nearly cost Dye her left leg. She spent three months in the hospital and underwent nine surgeries.

Now living with her mother in her native South Carolina, Dye has not only been struggling with her disability but she is also having difficulty managing the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical fees, reports Media Bistro. To make matters worst, South Carolina has denied her request for disability benefits twice.

According to the news site, nine surgeries left Dye with $405,000 of medical debt. Fundraisers thrown in her honor, directly after her accident, raised $75,000 but that still leaves Dye under an extreme amount of debt. She also deals with constant pain and has a hard time standing for long periods of time.

“I have been denied disability benefits twice. One person told me that I was “too young” and another person told me to “wait another year.” Wait another year? “When I’m 26?” I said. What is the difference between 25 and 26? There are so many people that receive disability benefits that don’t even need them and here I am with a mangled leg and have been denied benefits twice,” Dye told Media Bistro.
