Kai Wright of ColorLines believes that Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) is on that stuff — race-baiting stuff. King who has spoken out repeatedly against President Obama, promising to investigate him on all fronts, including his citizenship, has now thrown Muslims into the mix. King, who will chair the Homeland Security Committee, has promised hearings on the Constitution’s birthright-citizenship clause and the "radicalization" of American Muslims in the new Congress. In an op-ed in Newsday, King wrote, "As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I will do all I can to break down the wall of political correctness and drive the public debate on Islamic radicalization. These hearings will be a step in that direction. It's what democracy is all about." King is unapologetic to critics who say that he's launching a witch hunt. Indeed, his Newsday op-ed is a full-throated rejoinder to that paper's critical editorial board. He writes that he still has "anger and outrage" about "prominent Long Island Muslim leaders" who questioned whether terrorists were truly responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
We're wondering why King is singling out Muslims. Why not Christian extremists who blow up buildings and terrorize so-called nonbelievers? Will he call them forward, too? For a country so concerned with how tax dollars are being spent, watch just how much of your tax dollars will be at work with King in charge, pun intended.
