(The Root) — Chris Brown is speaking out against allegations that he was involved in a hit-and-run. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles city attorney has charged the singer with leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging the proper information and with driving without a license. He could also be subject to probation-violation charges, punishable by up to four years in prison.
Brown proclaimed his innocence, saying that he had a valid driver's license and claiming that he and the woman driving the other car exchanged information before he left the scene. He also put a picture of the back of the woman's car in his Twitter avatar, saying, "NO damage. Just a dirty car. Once again, I gotta clear my name." He also referred to TMZ as "the devil," accused the site of yellow journalism and said that his lawyers would be contacting it.
If there is a positive here, it is that this is not the usual tantrum that Brown is known for throwing in response to such controversies (although not blurring the woman's license plate number was pretty tasteless). Maybe he's finally taken to handing his Twitter account over to his PR team in times of crisis?
