(The Root) — Controversial Chicago teen rapper Chief Keef took a swing at pop star Katy Perry on Twitter on Thursday in response to a tweet she made on May 21. She tweeted, "Just heard a new song on the radio called 'I Hate Being Sober.' I now have serious doubt for the world." "I Hate Being sober" is a song of Chief Keef's featuring 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa.
Keef wasn't all that jazzed about Perry's comments, evidenced by the two profanity-laced tweets he sent in response, threatening to smack her in one of them. A third tweet announced a new song called "Katy Perry" coming soon.
Surprisingly, Perry responded late last night with an apology. "I'm sorry if I offended you," she said in one tweet, and in another told him how much she liked his video for the song "Don't Like." Keef retweeted Perry's apology but said nothing else in response.
Based on blog comments and tweets, the court of public Internet opinion has ruled that Perry didn't owe Keef an apology, but the fact that she apologized anyway is praiseworthy.
