Hall, of Top Chef fame and currently co-host of ABC’s The Chew, set out to raise funding for her Southern-style restaurant.

She used the funding site Kickstarter to raise the $250,000 needed to open Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen in New York by summer 2015.

Hall was set on maintaining control of her new venture and focused solely on raising the money through supporters. “It’s like you’re not in it by yourself. It’s one thing to have partners, but it’s another thing to have affirmation by the community that ‘Yes, we want this thing,’ ” she told AP.
