Charles Barkley’s basketball career could be considered a stellar one. But since retiring, he’s now that former athlete who specializes in pseudo-intellectual social commentary.
After the Ferguson, Mo., decision was announced, Barkley spoke with Mike Missanelli on Philadelphia’s 97.5 Fanatic. Barkley shared his opinion on the verdict and stood in solidarity with Darren Wilson and the grand jury.
“The true story came out from the grand jury testimony,” Barkley said. “We have to be really careful with the cops, man, because if it wasn’t for the cops we would be living in the wild, Wild West in our neighborhoods,” he continued. “We can’t pick out certain incidentals that don’t go our way and act like the cops are all bad.”
“Do you know how bad some of these neighborhoods would be if it wasn’t for the cops?” Barkley asked.

If it weren’t for the cops, Mike Brown would still be alive. A mother and father would still have their son. It’s obvious that Barkley hasn’t read any of the “facts” the grand jury received, in order to ascertain for himself that Wilson’s story was riddled with just as many holes as Brown’s body.
In typical fashion, Barkley also threw out the same tired excuse of black-on-black crime.
“They don’t jump to conclusions when black people kill each other,” he added.
I’m not going to call Barkley an Uncle Tom, as so many others have, but I will say that I wish people would stop asking certain “new black” people their opinion on social issues, since they’ve already removed themselves so far from the average black person’s reality that they’re downright delusional.
