Chance the Rapper is no stranger to politics, especially when it comes to the goings-on in Chicago. And he may have learned a lot from his father, Ken Bennett, who worked as the deputy chief of staff for current Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Even before he became a Grammy-winning rapper, Chance was heavily involved in his Chicago community, and with his recent donation to the Chicago Public School System, he’s cemented his legacy in the city. But his fans seem to have other dreams for the rapper: mayoral dreams.
The site Chano4mayor was launched over the weekend, along with a Twitter account, encouraging the rapper to run for mayor of Chicago.
“Hey Chance, We think you’d be a great mayor,” the site reads. “You represent Chicago on the world stage, and you do us proud.”
In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Bea Malsky, one of the site’s creators, said that the project started way before Chance made his donations.
“We would be very happy if he ran,” Malsky said, “we would be very happy if he’d become more politically involved and he endorsed a candidate who stands up for the same things that he stands up for in his music.”
And, of course, Chance has rapped about being mayor, stating in his song “Somewhere in Paradise”: “They say I’m savin’ my city, say I’m stayin’ for good. They screamin’ Chano for mayor, I’m thinkin’ maybe I should.”
