Every young black woman who’s fabulous, ambitious and committed to her growth was in attendance for The Root’s Young, Fabulous and Female event in New York City. Professional women from every level of their respective careers gathered to hear the stellar panel give its advice on everything from managing relationships to networking, building a brand, bossing up and more.
The powerhouse panel consisted of actress MaameYaa Boafo; Tricia Clarke-Stone, co-founder and CEO of Narrative; Lauren Maillian, an entrepreneur currently starring in Oxygen’s docuseries Quit Your Day Job; Caralene Robinson, senior vice president of VH1’s creative group and consumer marketing; and Jovian Zayne, a professional-development coach and diversity consultant. The Root’s publisher, Donna Byrd, expertly moderated the spirited discussion.
Guests arrived to a sprawling room, bathed in The Root’s signature green, as they eagerly waited for the panel to begin. And when it did, every woman in the room got her whole, entire life! The panelists dropped gems like these:
“Women who pour into other women are the ones who are going to find success in their life and career.” —Lauren Maillian
“Find your way to self-regulate, and find your own system of self-care.” —Caralene Robinson
“If you know the impact you bring to the table, no one can take that away from you.” —Tricia Clarke-Stone
“Once you’re serious about doing what you’re called to do, you won’t let it go because it won’t let you go.” —Jovian Zayne
“The power of networking, and stepping out of my comfort zone is really what brought me to this path.” —MaameYaa Boafo
