Bruce Drake of Politics Daily is reporting that 50 percent of Americans approve of President Obama's handling of Libya, according to a CBS News poll. Critics say the administration waited too long to act or, once it did, took military action whose goals were not as defined as Obama had said they would be.
According to the poll, 50 percent said they approved of Obama's handling of the situation, 29 percent disapproved, while 21 percent expressed no opinion. Despite the criticism, half of respondents support the president's decision making.
The CBS poll also found that Republicans, who uniformly give Obama low marks on domestic issues — particularly health care, the economy and the deficit — approve of his handling of Libya by a 43 percent to 41 percent margin. A CNN/Opinion Research poll, conducted March 18-20, found that 54 percent of those surveyed approved of Obama's handling of foreign affairs, and 50 percent agree with the way he's dealt with the Libyan crisis.
The polls offer a viewpoint that is decidedly different from those being offered in the media. People are divided on the job the president is doing in general and how he has handled the crisis in Libya. We've said it before and we'll say it again, the only poll that really matters is the one in 2012. That is when we will find out how Americans truly feel about the president's performance.
