New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino is on that stuff. Paladino told Orthodox Jewish leaders on Sunday that he doesn't want children "brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality" is acceptable. Paladino, who has been endorsed by the Tea Party, made the comments at Brooklyn's K'Hal Adas Kasho synagogue. Yes, you read right. On the heels of homophobic attacks in New York City, Paladino verbally attacks gays. He claims he was trying to highlight how he was a better candidate than his Democratic opponent, State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. In reference to homosexuality, Paladino stated, "That's not how God created us — that's not the example that we should be showing our children." Paladino criticized Cuomo for taking his children to a gay-pride parade, stating that he didn't want children "brainwashed into thinking homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option." The Republican gubernatorial candidate appeared on The Today Show and defended his comments, saying that he wasn't talking about all homosexuals, just children being exposed to homosexuality. Uh-huh. He also said on The Today Show that exposing children to "men grinding on each other" is "disgusting." Although he stands by his comments, Paladino pointed his finger at members of the synagogue, saying that they wrote his comments, along with some of his staffers. Paladino added that he has gays in his employ. Gee, thanks. We're sure that those gays are respected and treated extremely well. Not. Perhaps he and Ohio House GOP candidate Rich Iott, who has an affinity for dressing up like a Nazi, should join hands and skip off into the sunset? Shaking our heads over here at The Root.
