In the spirit of standing by her man, Camille Cosby has released an official response about the sexual assault allegations made against her husband, Bill Cosby, by at least 20 women.

Camille Cosby stated that her husband has been unfairly victimized and that Bill Cosby is the man the public has long known through his work. "A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know. It is also a portrait painted by individuals and organizations whom many in the media have given a pass," she said.

"The man I met, and fell in love with, and whom I continue to love, is the man you all knew through his work. He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend," she added. "He is the man you thought you knew."

Camille Cosby went on to state that the claims being made by the women were "unsubstantiated, fantastical stories." She also compared Bill Cosby's situation to the University of Virginia rape case that recently made headlines after Rolling Stone published an article that has been widely criticized for poor research.

"The story was heartbreaking but ultimately appears to be proved to be untrue. Many in the media were quick to link that story to stories about my husband—until that story unwound," she said. "None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking a victim. But the question should be asked—who is the victim?"

Maybe Camille Cosby needs to reread Beverly Johnson's Vanity Fair article, or even view Johnson's most recent appearance on The View, before she puts on the dutiful wife-martyr role for her husband.

But did people expect anything different? The facts remain the same: At least 20 women have come forward. At least 20 women with similar stories. Some of these women have more to lose than to gain by telling their stories. Rape and sexual assault are two of the most underreported crimes against women, and it's a shame that there are tons of women out there questioning not only the motives of these women but their validity.

Just because your favorite comedian played the loving Dr. Huxtable on television does not make him that person in real life. Sure, love Dr. Huxtable all you want, but I'm side-eyeing the hell out of William H. Cosby's private life. And to Bill Cosby: Don't send your wife out to do your dirty work. You should be the one making statements.
