Cam Newton was once one of the most popular and exciting players in the NFL. His exploits on the field were so incredible that many called him “Superman.” But now that he’s out of the league, he feels like he can’t be called that anymore.
During a recent episode of “Special Forces: Worlds Toughest Test,” a reality show on Fox, Newton opened up about the struggles of being a father of eight kids, saying, “I’m going into a different phase of my life that’s going to require a different form of myself. Being in the NFL, everyone knows there’s a large sum of money that comes to you in a short span of time and being away from the game for three years, those checks don’t came in the same. Like I got eight kids.”
He continued, “It hurts me knowing that I can’t provide like I once did. It hurts thinking that I’m Superman, but in reality, I’m just a man… There’s a famous quote that says in order to get something that you’ve never had, you go to do something that you’ve never done. At 35, I can literally say, ‘Okay now I’m getting prepared for this next chapter of my life.’”
Although Newton may not be getting paid like he once was, he’s still getting plenty of opportunities as a sports personality. He makes weekly appearances on ESPN’s “First Take,” and is also the host of two popular podcasts “Funky Friday” and “4&1.”
This isn’t the first Newton has put his personal feelings on Front Street.
In October, he admitted to cheating on his current girlfriend Jasmin Brown, who he shares a daughter with, on an episode of his “Funk Friday” podcast. “As long as I’ve been with Jas, Jas has not been the only person I’ve had sex with,” he said.
This caused quite a stir on social media, with many people calling on Brown to respond to what her man said. On her Instagram story, she wrote, “Childddddd here come the ‘just checking on you’ DMs. I am fine. Trust me, I know who and what my n***a is. Ain’t no secrets or surprises. He can talk to me about anything. Ain’t no secrets or surprises. He can talk to me about anything.”
