The cries to free Wendy Williams are growing louder as the beloved talk show host’s interviews with Don Lemon and Charlamagne Tha God are making the rounds on social media. In a January 16 post captioned, “Sabrina E. Morrissey is taking advantage of Wendy Williams. She does not have her freedom. This interview proves that Wendy is not losing her mind,” TikToker @youdidnthearitfrommimi dropped a clip of Wendy’s interview on “The Breakfast Club” in which she appears to be fully alert.

Williams’ heartbreaking situation has also led to the creation of a GoFundMe to help support her fight for independence.

But one of the people who is speaking the loudest is Wendy’s niece, Alex Finney. Just a few hours after his January 16 interview with Williams, Don Lemon spoke with Finney about Wendy’s condition.

Finney told Lemon that Wendy is speaking out now because she is desperate to get out of her current state of isolation, and she wants to let as many people as possible know just how bad things are.

“We have done all we can to try to find some sort of solution for her to live a dignified life, and it’s not working,” she said.

Finney added that Williams is essentially on lockdown in New York City in a small apartment about the size of a hotel room with just a television, bathroom, landline phone and one window. When pressed by Lemon, Finney said she was unclear if Wendy ultimately decided to move to her current location from a Connecticut facility, but knows that she is speaking out now because she is desperately trying to make her way to Florida to be closer to family.

While Wendy’s court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has had ultimate control over every aspect of her aunt’s life since 2023, Finney says the rest of the family has been left on the outside. Although she has no idea how her aunt got into the situation, Finney says she is doing everything she can to help her get out of it.

“I’m heartbroken to see my aunt in this space to see her literally just desperate for anybody to hear her and help her change the situation. It breaks my heart. The best thing we can do right now is fight and honor what she wants, which is to tell her story and get the conversation out there so she can get out of the situation,” she said.
