California, Home of Sunshine and Progressive Thought, Upholds Prop 8
In keeping with voter sentiments from last year, the California Supreme Court has voted to uphold the state's ban on gay marriage the New York Times reports. The Court cited a desire to honor the will of the people in making their 6-1 decision, a desire they apparently didn't have when they previously voted 4-3 that same-sex unions were constitutional. The 18,000 marriages that the Court allowed before the Prop 8 vote last November will still be legal, thus creating an East Germany/West Germany type of dynamic of which Californians can surely be proud. *side eye*
Kanye Just Letting Himself Be Great by Coming Out with Book of 'Kanye-isms'
Kanye West likes himself enough to release a book of wisdom according to him. BET reports that the producer cum rapper cum renaissance man of genius, along with co-author J. Sakiya Sandifer, will release Thank You and You're Welcome July 7. Inspired by Sandifer's Think, Think and Think Again, West had this to say: ""[He did] bullet points in bold graphics, and he expounded upon them … whereas books hide the main points chapters in. You have to read so much to get so much out of it. We wanted to make it simple for people who are non-readers, who don't feel like doing all that, and still get the point across." Yes, Kanye. YES.
O.J. Feeling Lucky, Appealing Las Vegas Robbery Conviction
Thinking that he's actually in jail for the crime he was convicted, O.J. Simpson is appealing said conviction and asking the Nevada Supreme Court to overturn the charges according to the Associated Press. Looking at 9 to 33 years behind bars if the conviction is upheld, Simpson's lawyers are alleging "Simpson's conviction in a hotel room confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers was tainted by judicial misconduct, a lack of racial diversity on the jury and errors in sentencing and jury instructions." Uh…good luck with that, Juice.
