Sometimes it’s hard to feel any sympathy toward certain artists when they receive critique from fans, because in many cases it’s of their own doing. But in the case of Burna Boy, he’s done nothing but move across the stage in a way that was unfamiliar for some people. Yet he’s still received this wave of criticism and jokes.

They all came from this one clip of the “I Told Them…” singer performing during a recent live show.

Looks like nothing right? Except, if you explore the comments, they are filled with jokes about Burna.

One person wrote, “Who is this diva?”

Another person added, “Go Burn girl.”

Other comments read, “Now I believe burna boy is someone wife,” “Diddy him dirty” and “Diddy will be so proud of him.”

The insinuation that “Diddy did him dirty” is particularly disturbing considering Burna has not been accused of having any kind of inappropriate or illegal interactions with the disgraced music mogul over the years.

The two were at best business partners. Puff was an executive producer on Burna’s popular album “Twice as Tall,” which resulted in him winning a Grammy award for Best Global Music Album.

The comments are similar to the jokes people made about Shannon Sharpe earlier this year. If you recall, in a video posted to his own TikTok account, the NFL Hall of Famer is visiting a wine store to promote his luxury cognac, Shay by Le Portier.

Instead of people focusing on the product he was promoting, fans made fun of the way he Hall of Fame tight-end dresses and walks, claiming that he was walking in a feminine way.

Unfortunately, the reactions of these two people highlight the homophobic tendencies of our society. Videos can be taken of grown men simply minding their business, and thousands of people on social media can suddenly make judgments about their sexuality.

What happened to let people live? Until they decide to make their sexuality a topic of conversation, it should be none of our business.
