An unpaid  traffic ticket came back to  haunt Denver Broncos player Cody Latimer at the most inopportune time. On Monday the wide receiver was allegedly on the receiving end of physical abuse from his girlfriend Jaimee Rando, so he did the right thing by calling the police.

According to Denver’s Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Latimer said Rando put her hands on him. But once police arrived at the scene, they performed a background check on Latimer and discovered an unpaid traffic ticket, which led to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

The ticket in question was issued in March 2015 for improper lighting on his vehicle. The sheriff’s office arrested Latimer for failing to appear for the April 2015 court date.

Denver police arrested Rando on assault and disturbing the peace charges. But things must not have been too bad, because Latimer bailed her out the next day.
