As if the BP oil debacle couldn't get any worse, it has. BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg on Tuesday apologized for speaking "clumsily" by referring to those hurt by his company's oil spill as "small people." Come again? Svanberg apologized, saying that he was trying to say that he "understands how deeply this affects the lives of people who live along the Gulf and depend on it for their livelihood … " Yeah, that doesn't sound anything like what he originally said. We're not buying it. Who knew that oil is also truth serum?
