This Pride Month, Sephora is giving its clients who identify as transgender or nonbinary an extra boost of confidence with a new addition to its Classes for Confidence program. “Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community” is the latest program in Sephora’s social impact and sustainability initiative, Sephora Stands.
Each 90-minute in-store beauty workshop is designed to empower clients of all gender expressions with tools and techniques to create their own personal beauty regimen, including:
- personalized skin-care advice
- application techniques for color-correcting and creating smooth skin texture
- help finding the best shade of foundation using Sephora’s Color iQ, a proprietary technology that scans the skin’s surface and assigns it a Color iQ number
Classes for Confidence was launched in 2016 for clients experiencing major life transitions. Prior series have focused on workforce re-entry and beauty for clients suffering from cancer, in partnership with community organizations. To date, the program has hosted more than 850 classes, reaching nearly 9,000 clients, 78 percent of whom reported an increase in their confidence as a result of the class.
“Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community” was developed by members of the Sephora staff who have had their own journeys of gender expression, and many of the in-store classes will also be hosted by transgender and nonbinary instructors. In addition, Sephora Stands has partnered with several national and local organizations that serve the LGBTQIA community.
Corrie Conrad, head of social impact and sustainability for Sephora, said in a press release:
Sephora Stands is dedicated to supporting diversity and inclusion in all of its social impact programming. We stand with all members of the LGBTQA community and are committed to providing these individuals with the tools they want to feel confident and beautiful every single day. At Sephora, we believe beauty is yours to define, and ours to celebrate. We are honored to be a beacon of support and a part of each beauty journey through our new class offering.
The Glow Up tip: “Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community” classes will be available throughout the country in participating Sephora stores. Family, friends and allies are welcome to join. For those unable to attend a class, how-to video tutorials will be available on Sephora Stands’ YouTube channel, led by transgender Sephora beauty advisers.
