Remember that white subway passenger who placed a Black passenger in a chokehold which led to his death last year in New York City?

Well, on Monday, a Manhattan jury found Daniel Penny not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely. Leave it to Black Twitter to say what Black people everywhere is thinking.

One user, @LoLoByke, questioned how is that so many people can get away with killing us? “Crazy how we’re so desensitized to death and people continually get away with killing folks that look like me,” she wrote.

“RIP Jordan Neely Sadly this sh*t will be even worse when 47 gets back in office. Prepare wisely.”

Another X/Twitter user, @gggb1, believed there should have been more outrage from Black celebrities to bring attention to the severity of the case. “Sad part is none of our black entertainers, athletes, politicians spoke out about Jordan Neely maybe rest with the ancestors,” they wrote.

After Penny was acquitted, Neely’s father expressed sadness with the jury’s verdict and the criminal justice system overall.

“I miss my son. My son didn’t have to go through this. I didn’t have to go through this either,” Andre Zachary said. “It hurts, it really, really hurts. What are we going to do, people? What’s going to happen to us now? I’ve had enough of this. The system is rigged.”

One social media user in particular, @Fly_Sistah , felt the exact same way. “Daniel Perry found NOT guilty. He choked Jordan Neely to death in front of dozens of witnesses,” they lamented.

“What can you expect, though, with the sitting mayor & ex cop Eric Adams saying it’s okay to kill homeless people on the train instead of calling the omnipresent police force.”

Before the verdict was announced, @FBAGoddess444 shared a message to honor the life of Neely. “Say his name...Jordan Neely,” she wrote with a picture of him attached.

Last week, Associated Press reported that Andre Zachary filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court accusing Penny of assault, battery and causing Neely’s death. The suit does not specify the amount of money the family is seeking.
