(The Root) — The Concert for Sandy Relief Wednesday night in New York's Madison Square Garden was a touching example of solidarity in the wake of the hurricane that devastated the East Coast several weeks ago. Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel and Coldplay's Chris Martin, with a cameo from Michael Stipe, all put in great sets. But somehow Kanye West managed to make his mark amid the music icons. Let's just say, he literally kilt it.

12.12.12: The Concert for Sandy Relief (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. ET; multiple stations)

Highlight: If you're a Yeezy fan, you know about his exclusive and high-priced sneaker line for Nike and the bossy transformation he made to Kim K's closet when they first got together. You know that he is a self-proclaimed fashionisto. So perhaps you can explain why he wore a plus-sized leather skirt (Follow it @KanyesSkirt on Twitter!) and screen-printed hoodie from Virgil Abloh's cult streetwear line Pryrex Vision ("Pryex 23" was printed on the back) to perform at the 12-12-12 benefit concert at MSG, because we have no idea. No idea. (Actually, it's not the first time West has worn the kilt by Givenchy, having sported the look during last year's Watch the Throne tour.)

He still delivered, though — it was a sweaty, often Auto-Tuned performance of "Mercy," "Power," "Jesus Walks," "All of the Lights," "Diamonds From Sierra Leone," "Touch the Sky," "Gold Digger," "Runaway" and "Stronger." We will also still nod our heads to these songs, tacky leather skirt (er, kilt) or not.
