(The Root) — Author Sohail Daulatzai delves into the movement of the black Islamic Diaspora throughout the second half of the 20th century in his latest book, Black Star, Crescent Moon: The Muslim International and Black Freedom Beyond America, from a post-9/11 perspective. Through thoughtful and poignant investigation, Daulatzai highlights the shared, "radical imagination" between black Muslims and radicals and the "Muslim Third World." He discusses contemporary Islam's continued issues with imperialism, illustrated by examples from Malcolm X, Yasiin Bey, Lupe Fiasco and others.
Daulatzai's Black Star, Crescent Moon is available in September.
