I love a good intertwining story. I love when you take a group of strangers who’d otherwise never connect with each other and somehow connect them. Tears (happy or sad) ensue!
It’s why I love content like This Is Us, Love Actually, and The Holiday.
This love doesn’t apply to Crash.
Anyway.
According to IMDb, this plot device is called “multiple storylines.”
And now, intertwining love stories don’t have to be relegated to white faces (and a dash of black). We’re about to lead this shit, thanks to the upcoming film The Photograph, starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield.
Per Variety:
Stella Meghie will direct and Will Packer will produce for his eponymous production company.
The romantic drama centers on intertwining love stories in the past and present. Universal is very high on the pic after Meghie impressed execs with her original script so much so that they tapped her to direct as well. She is also on board to exec produce.
Will Packer Productions’ James Lopez will produce, while Rae executive produces. Senior vice president of production Sara Scott and creative executive Mika Pryce will oversee production for Universal.
Meghie is definitely a director to watch, having recently helmed Everything, Everything and scooped television directing credits on Insecure and Grown-ish. She also directed two episodes of the upcoming rebooted series The First Wives Club from Tracy Oliver.
Stanfield has upped his notoriety with hits such as Sorry to Bother You and FX’s Atlanta, and has a few projects in the works, such as Someone Great (Netflix), Knives Out, and Uncut Gems.
Meanwhile, Rae is scooping up every single coin in every single bag and taking names. With fans (im)patiently awaiting Insecure’s return, she’s been keeping herself busy with Little and The Lovebirds, just to name a couple. And don’t forget, she’s still a CoverGirl.
Principal photography of The Photograph (heh) began on Monday.
