Everyone’s betting on black in the fight against sexual harassment. On Tuesday morning, Conde Nast Publications—home to Vogue and Vanity Fair—announced that it will partner with eBay to auction off some of the gowns and tuxedos the stars wore to the 2018 Golden Globes.
This year’s ceremony will go down in history for the celebrities who turned the red carpet black as a symbol of solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment in the workplace. Now select stars are using every sequin, feather and stitch in their power to raise money for the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund.
In a statement issued to Vanity Fair, Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue, said, “Through this auction powered by eBay for Charity and harnessing the compelling pull of both fashion and activism, we’re hopeful that the black dresses worn at this year’s historic Golden Globe Awards will raise funds for the Time’s Up initiative and serve to support the stories and voices of those who have been victims of sexual misconduct.”
But don’t worry; you don’t have to have thousands of extra dollars ready to burn on a ball gown to get in on the game. You can do good by donating a minimum $25 to the cause, which enters you to win one of three dresses from designers Stella McCartney, Rosie Assoulin or Diane von Furstenberg.
The online auction opens Friday, Jan. 29, at noon EST at this eBay webpage. Among many black-on-black delights up for grabs are Tracee Ellis Ross’ and Viola Davis’ dresses from Marc Jacobs and Brandon Maxwell, respectively—including that turban Ross rocked on the red carpet.
So get your credit card and your black-tie attitude together, because it might just be you who wins. And if you do, there’ll be no one to thank but yourself!
