Marcus Bradley, a deliver driver for a Lowe's store in Virginia, says he was shocked Aug. 3 when a manager called to let him know he couldn't make a drop-off.

"I got a phone call on the phone telling me to bring the delivery back, saying that I couldn't do the delivery," Bradley told Fox 10.

"I asked him why I couldn't do it, and he said because you're black, and they don't want you at the house," Bradley said.

The customer told the Lowe's manager not to send an African American to deliver the order, Fox 10 reported.

So a shocked Bradley and his co-worker, Alex Brooks, returned to the store, where Bradley was replaced with a white driver.

"To me, it just ain't right for a business that we work at to go on with the woman's wishes," Brooks told the news station.

"It was one of those things like, 'These guys will get over it, they're tough guys, they're delivery guys,' " Brooks said. "And that's kind of where I just had to put my foot down and say I couldn't do it with them."

The woman who reportedly asked that no black delivery driver be sent to her home told the news station that she has a right to request what she wants.

"I got a right to have whatever I want and that's it," the woman said. "No, I don't feel bad about nothing."

Bradley told the news station that he was hurt by the woman's request, but also saddened that Lowe's didn't take up for him. Despite the letdown, Bradley added that he won't be missing any time at work.

"I mean, I gotta work," he said. "I'm going to keep going to work like I've always done. But I would think Lowe's would take it into consideration to think about what they're doing next time."

Lowe's corporate office told the news station that the manager who honored the customer's racist request has been fired because he should never have taken Bradley off the delivery.
