The African-American Film Critics Association will honor director Melvin Van Peebles, the late Lena Horne and film critic Roger Ebert at its second annual awards ceremony in December. The 2010 AAFCA Awards ceremony will take place Dec. 13 at the Ebony Repertory Theater in Los Angeles. Van Peebles is best known for his seminal and game-changing 1971 film Sweet Sweetbacks Baadasssss Song, and Horne for being a consummate performer and breaking down barriers for black actors in film. Ebert is lauded for bringing film criticism to the masses through television. These honorees opened doors for people of all races in different facets of the film industry.
