Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia made news this week after stating that black college students don’t do well at more advanced colleges and should attend slower-track schools. The comment was made during Wednesday’s hearing in the affirmative action case Abigail Fisher v. University of Texas.
“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to get them into the University of Texas, where they do not do well,” Scalia said, “as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school … a slower-track school where they do well.”
Fisher was a prospective student of the University of Texas but says she was denied admission because she’s white. Fisher stated that the university admitted other students with less-than-stellar grades only because of their race.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Scalia also stated that nowadays, “most” black scientists “don’t come from schools like the University of Texas,” but instead choose to attend “lesser schools where they do not feel that … they’re being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them.”
#StayMadAbby was a direct response, not only to Scalia, but also to Fisher. Black students took to Twitter and posted photos of their caps and gowns, as well as their degrees from all types of universities.

But here’s the truth of the matter: Maybe Fisher just wasn’t good enough. Then again, a lot of people suffer from delusions of grandeur, so you probably couldn’t tell her any different.
