Fox Searchlightthe film studio that paid big bucks for indie film Birth of a Nation at the Sundance Film Festival last monthhas high hopes for the biopic. The film tells the story of black slave rebellion leader Nat Turner, as played by Nate Parker, who also wrote and directed the film.

According to Deadline, Fox Searchlight secured an Oct. 7 release date for the film, a snug date that suggests the studio is setting the film up nicely for the 2016-2017 movie awards season. We're talking the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Academy Awards.

Something tells us that Parker is going to be an even happier man come this fall.
