During January, OWN will air programming that honors civil rights legends and takes a historical look at the movement and its legacy. The Oprah Winfrey Network will also touch upon subjects that mattered then and still do now. One subject that will be discussed is skin color, and as a follow-up to his Dark Girls documentary, the network will air Bill Duke’s newest foray into complexion issues, Light Girls.

Light Girls will look at colorism with stories from lighter-skinned women from around the world. Duke said that the series will tackle the sensitive question of whether having light skin makes a person’s life easier. The series will feature Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Soledad O’Brien, Diahann Carroll, India.Arie, Iyanla Vanzant, Michaela Angela Davis, Kym Whitley and Russell Simmons.

Light Girls will air on Monday, Jan. 19, at 9 p.m. EST/PST on OWN.
