In today’s “WTF, Bill Cosby?” news, the comedian is now suing the former Temple University employee who accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her. Not only is Cosby suing Andrea Constand, but he’s also suing her mother and the National Enquirer.
Cosby filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the three parties, saying that everyone broke a confidentiality agreement that was negotiated in 2006. Cosby claims that because Constand is now cooperating with the criminal case against him in Pennsylvania, she’s breached their original confidentiality agreement signed when she settled out of court in a civil suit.
The lawsuit states that Constand and her mother “voluntarily participated in a 2015 reinvestigation of Andrea Constand’s allegations against Mr. Cosby. Both Andrea and Gianna voluntarily sat for interviews with the district attorney, even though they were under no legal obligation to do so and the terms of the confidentiality agreement expressly prohibited such conduct.”
As for the National Enquirer, Cosby’s lawsuit states that the newspaper is also violating the confidentiality agreement because it continues to post stories about Cosby. Constand sued the company that owns the National Enquirer for defamation in 2005, and also settled that lawsuit with a confidentiality agreement.
Cosby is demanding that Constand return the settlement money. A preliminary hearing on the criminal case is scheduled for March 8.
